I am now recuperating at home. My mind is still experiencing some random dizziness due to the anaesthetic from the surgery. As a result, do not expect me to compose out perfect English in this blog entry.
On the morning of March the 27th, I fetched my girlfriend to Lam Wah Ee Hospital for my varicocele surgery. Upon registering myself at Dr. Leong's clinic, I had to undergo blood test and chest X-ray scanning.
Before I was officially admitted in, Dr. Leong requested me to meet him again for some brief discussion about the surgery. I basically agreed to all the conditions that Dr. Leong raised.
The deposit payment would be RM5,000. I opted to have the 3rd class room (open ward) as both my personal insurance and company insurance are paying me RM0.00 for this surgery.
Lam Wah Ee Hospital is 1 overcrowded hospital as I had to be placed in a temporary ward while waiting for the patient in my registered bed to be discharged. That bloody patient must be taking his own sweet time as I had yet to be transferred from the temporary ward even after:
- I got my change of clothes
- Intravenous Infusion was plugged into my right wrist vein (OUCH!)
- I underwent a procedure that I would not divulge here
- a pre-anaesthetic injection was stabbed into my buttock
Mindset before surgery: If the surgery was as painful as the IV drip, BRING IT ON!
Before I knew it, my vision started to wave in and out. Unlike those Hong Kong movies where the operating theatre is just a door away from the waiting relatives, I was continuously being rolled past a few rooms away from where my girlfriend was stopped.
It took me a couple of inhalings of the sleeping gas before I finally passed out.
I did not regain consciousness for quite some time. Basically, I was in a limbo state: even if I was awake, 1 + 1 = ? would be some alien languages to me. The only thing that made sense to me would be my girlfriend's face by my side when I opened my eyes for a short moment before drifting into dreams again.
Things became much clearer by 8pm. I was a little surprised that my surgery took some good 4 to 5 hours out of my life. My girlfriend was even more shocked to see patients that went into the operating theatre after me coming out much earlier that she ended up promising God to give up meat to have me coming out from the operating theatre in 1 piece!
3 holes & my swollen abdomen.
Throughout the night, I kept on having the feeling that my bladder was at its limit even though my girlfriend told me that I had a urine bag piped into my bladder. My waist area was in so much pain that I could not even raise myself from the bed.
After everyone went home, I lifted my blanket to take a look at how the doctor patched me up. I almost screamed when I discovered that the urine bag pipe was inserted through my urethra! How the heaven did a bloody fat pipe was inserted through the tiny hole in my penis?! The sight was so disturbing that I could not sleep well at all!
Dr. Leong came to check me out in the middle of the night. The elements of dizziness and pain sensation combined was so overwhelming that I could not make out a single thing he said to me.
After an eternity of waiting, the morning sun started to radiate the room bright. I was forced out of my bed to change my clothes without any assistance from the nurse! WTF?! Getting myself into a sitting position was so exhausting that I did not even dare to imagine whether I would be able to stand on my 2 thin legs! With my right hand grabbing onto the IV drip pole and my left hand holding onto the urine bag & mobile, I successfully wobbled my way into the toilet.
Pathetic! That would be the word to describe my feeling when I noticed that my legs were shaking so much that I could not even wash my face properly.
Once my bed was done, a nurse came over and DARN PAINFULLY pulled out the urine bag pipe from my bladder. I swear that it was SO PAINFUL that I would even reject RM10,000 to experience the same procedure again!
I tried to pass urine the normal way for 2 times. Both trials ended up with a few painful orangish drips. It was almost the end of the world for me.
Not long after that, my girlfriend appeared out of nowhere after losing her way while searching for my bed. With my lucky star beside me, good news started to roll in:
- my legs finally stabilized to suppport my weight
- I had no problem controlling my bladder
- Dr. Leong allowed me to be discharged on that particular day
- the RM5,000 that I deposited a day earlier was more than enough to cover the overall costs
The only piece of cloth that I can wear comfortably at the moment.
I shall stop here before the whole wall of texts start to collapse.
Last but not least, I owed my girlfriend more than everything for sticking with me through such a perilous and delicate stage of my life!
